MUDHOLE TROLL TRIP
AUGUST-OCTOBER
10-HOUR Trips

The Mudhole is a well-known fishing location. The Hole as it is sometimes called, is the extension of a glacier trench. It was this glacier that formed the Hudson River. The Northern part of the Mudhole begins at the BA (Barnegat to Ambrose) buoy and travels southeast as far as the HA (Hudson to Ambrose) buoy. It provides 15 miles of deep-water fishing. The sides of the Hole have current up swells, which providenutrients for bait fish.

A TYPICAL MUDHOLE TROLL TRIP

We like to depart the dock at 5 AM. Experience shows us that early morning tends to provide more strikes. We troll a 6-11 rod pattern, which keeps the action steady. Most of the fish you catch will be between 10 and 30 pounds. Penn 20 International Reels are a good match for this size fish and keep the battle interesting. False Albacore, Bonito, Skipjack, Blue fin Tuna, Dolphin Fish are the typical species caught.

A 45-minute ride to the BA buoy starts the day. We set up and begin trolling south, work down the west or east wall and include some favorite wrecks and pot lines. When we find an area producing fish, we stay and work it. The action can be fast and furious or steady throughout the day. It is a hands on, personally demanding charter, where your involvement increases the catch rate. We are delighted to instruct you in setting lines, checking lines, clearing lines and most importantly fighting the fish.

A Mud hole trip tends to be scaled down version of a canyon troll trip. These trips are ideal for someone who wants to include a younger son or daughter and/or is uncomfortable with an overnight, 36 hour Canyon trip. You are fishing in 45 minutes instead of 4 hours. In the event the weather unexpectedly becomes uncomfortable, we are close to our Home Dock. The cost of a Mudhole trip is considerably less than that of a Canyon trip.
